The Case for Maryland

leave a comment »

Tony Kornheiser makes the case for the Terps getting a bid in the NCAA Tourney in his column in today’s Washington Post:

On my grid, Maryland is already in, because the Terps have won 18 games (and went 8-8 in the ACC) while playing a schedule that according to ESPN is rated as the eighth-hardest in all of D-I. Right, the eighth-hardest schedule among 334 teams.

I think from a numbers perspective his argument makes sense, but. (and I know a lot of other fellow terp fans will agree) watching this set of guys is like having your teeth pulled, its just not pretty. But hey, I’ll take whatever we can get.

Simply Cluttered

leave a comment »

Simply is another online bookmarking site, similar to Del.icio.us. The site includes tags, as well as the usual set of features, nothing too original and if anything the site seems overly cluttered, unlike the clean interface of del.icio.us. I did like the ability to very easily sync my Simply account with my del.icio.us account, it took only a few clicks.

One interesting aspect is the revenue sharing which gives the ability of users to host Google adsense ads on the pages next to their links. The user gets 100% of the profits from these ads- since the ads are linked directly to your adsense account.

I’m not sure that Simply brings anything new to the online bookmarking market, and I for one will continue to use my del.icio.us account over Simply.

Way to go McNotGoToClassAlot…

leave a comment »

Senior Captain, and one of Maryland’s most consistent players, Chris McCray, was ruled academically ineligible yesterday:

McCray’s mother, Shirleeta, said her son fell short of posting the 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative grade-point average needed for him to remain eligible. In addition to other stipulations, NCAA rules mandate that senior athletes hold at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA after the fall semester to be eligible for the spring.

Regarding one course this fall, Shirleeta McCray said her son told her that he e-mailed his assignments to the instructor, who did not accept assignments that were e-mailed in. A source with firsthand knowledge of the situation, however, said class attendance was an issue for the senior.

Minor Tweaks: Ikea Dialogues

leave a comment »

Fun and games with Ikea’s automated customer service bot:

Anna: The IKEA business idea is: “We shall offer a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible will be able to afford them.”

Me: You’re putting up barriers.

Anna: You are perfectly entitled to hold any opinion you want about me. Furthermore, your comments improve my knowledge base. Thank you!

Me: It doesn’t matter what I think about you. It matters what YOU think about you.
